Hair Education and Training

Traineeship

A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience that will aid and prepare you for your future career path.
You will learn how to develop your skills and confidence through work experience and prepare yourself for the future by improving skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, job searches and inter-personal skills. We will also assist you in improving your Maths & English where required.

Traineeships

A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience that will aid and prepare you for your future career path.

Is it for me?
Traineeships are available to anyone aged 16-19 and also for young people with Learning Difficulty Assessments or Education Health and Care Plans.

What will I learn?
You will learn how to develop your skills and confidence through work experience and prepare yourself for the future by improving skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, job searches and inter-personal skills. We will also assist you in improving your Maths & English where required.

How long will the programme last?
The programme will last for 12 weeks and will include online initial assessment to indicate the level you are working at with your English and Maths. You will attend the Academy 2 days per week and be in the work place for a minimum of 2 days per week.

Apprenticeships

To enrol as an Apprentice, you will need to work for a recognised salon. Apprenticeships offer a structured programme of training within a full time job. They are a great way to start a career in hairdressing, learning all the vital skills employers look for when recruiting staff. They also allow you to earn a wage whilst developing industry skills.

Level 2 Diploma for the Hair Professional

What will I learn?
You will learn a range of hairdressing skills including:-
Consultation
Shampoo, condition and treat hair & scalp
Cutting hair
Style and finish hair
Perming
Related Health & Safety

How will I learn?
The majority of your training will be within your salon, however for 1 day per week, you will attend the Academy for continued practical training and theory. You will also work towards Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English if you do not have grade C or above in Maths & English GCSE.
Synoptic testing or End Point Assessment (see overleaf), will take place at the end of the Apprenticeship and will be carried out by an Independent Assessor at an Accredited Centre.
On completion of this qualification you will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. You will be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. You will also be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with your role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Level 2 Diploma for the Barbering Professional

What will I learn?

NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing

What will I learn?
This qualification covers specific skills necessary to become a senior stylist. The qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of hairdressing and develops more detailed and enhanced technical skills necessary for employment. Your skills and techniques will be assessed in a real working environment.
There are four mandatory units in this qualification for you to study including: – Creatively style and dress hair – Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques – Creatively colour and lighten hair – Provide client consultation services You will then be able to select a minimum of two optional units from a range of 10 units which includes: create a variety of permed effects; hair colour correction services.

How will I learn?

The majority of your training will be within your salon, however for 1 day per week, you will attend the Academy for continued practical training and theory. You will also work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English if you do not have grade C or above GCSE in both.

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (VRQ) is a Technical Award specifically for 14-16 year olds.

The aim of this qualification is to use the hair and beauty sector as a vehicle to develop learners more broadly, so they are prepared and equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a career in any context.

Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Beauty Skills

 16-19 VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is a vocational qualification that will prepare you to become a hairdressing or beauty therapy professional in the hair and beauty sector. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but in order to optimise chances of success, a learner will participate in an interview and be aware that Functional Skills are integrated within the programme, if required.

Where to Start
The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills is a job ready qualification. It will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as an Apprentice or newly qualified Hairdresser and Beauty Therapist.
How will you learn?
Work will be on mannequin heads and models for both hairdressing and beauty therapy. You will be assessed throughout the duration of this course, working towards your final exams. A hairdressing and beauty therapy kit and theory book will be issued to you at the start of this course and you will be given guidance on the correct manner of dress.

What will you learn?   This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing and beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairdresser/beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units and optional units which include:
Health & Safety
Basic manicure
Shampoo and treat hair
Blow dry and finish hair
Basic Pedicure
Basic plaiting and twisting hair
Basic Skincare
Eyebrow Shaping
Basic cutting techniques for women’s hair
Basic photographic make-up
Colour hair using semi-permanent colour
Basic clipper cutting techniques for men’s hair
Basic nail art
Create an image based on a theme

 

Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. Learners will acquire knowledge of all relevant testing together with health, safety and legislation requirements necessary for a Junior Hairdresser/Beauty Therapist.
They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of basic hairdressing and beauty therapist skills. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed.  
You will attend the E-Hair Salon & Academy for two days per week (days as yet to be determined). Each day will consist of both practical and theory work. By gaining a work experience placement in a hairdressing or beauty salon, although not essential, will help and enhance your course enormously.
Progression Route
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at
Level 3.

Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing

16 – 19 year olds
VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing is a Technical Certificate qualification aimed at learners aged 16-19 who require a full-time Level 2 education programme and wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior hairdresser/hairstylist. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but in order to optimise their chances of success, a learner will ideally hold a Level 1 qualification or equivalent in hairdressing.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but in order to optimise their chances of success, a learner will ideally hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent in hairdressing.

This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a senior hairdresser/stylist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include: – Health and safety in the salon – Hairdressing consultation – Hair cutting services – Hair colouring services – Setting and dressing services – Blow-drying and finishing services Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of cutting and colouring services, and set, dress and finish the hair. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed. In addition to completing mandatory units, learners are required to complete one optional unit which in this case will be colour correction services.

VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is an occupational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed hairdresser/stylist. This qualification is based on Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s lead hairdressing professional association (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a senior hairdresser/stylist.  The qualification includes all the required elements to
work effectively as an advanced hairdresser/stylist including health and safety; client consultation; advanced cutting; styling and colouring techniques and; selling products and services to clients. Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council.

Units Include:
• Promote and sell products and services to clients
• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in
the salon
• Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks

Level 3 Diploma in Barbering

Course: VTCT Diploma in Barbering Level 3
Duration: 12 months or less to achieve all parts depending on individual circumstances
Attendance: Mondays at HED Co/ Ehair – start date and times TBC

Overview
The Level 3 Diploma in Barbering is based on the National Occupational Standards for Barbering.
It is a job ready qualification which requires learners to demonstrate in the workplace the skills and knowledge required for advanced barbering within the Hair industry. This is an advanced qualification and supports your barbering practices at the highest levels.

Course Structure
There are 4 mandatory units that must be completed plus a minimum of 26 credits from the optional units. The mandatory units are:
Provide shaving services (11 credits)
Creatively cut hair using a combination of barbering techniques (14 credits)
Design and create a range of facial hair shapes (7 credits)
Provide hairdressing consultation services (8 credits)

Requirements
You must already be qualified at Level 2 Barbering and be employed or have a work placement cutting men’s hair in a barbers for two days a week. .
Candidates are required to supply barbering kit. Uniform must be black and white only (no denim) and closed in comfortable shoes.

Funding
Advanced Learning Loans are available to everyone completing a Level 3 or higher qualification.

Barbering Short Course
